On this day, we honor the men and women of all branches of service: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard for their selfless service to America.
I’m quite certain that air shows, military details marching and saluting, and patriotic Americans standing at attention will be ever-present today across the country.
A variety of Veteran’s Appreciation Breakfast’s, Luncheon’s and Dinners will be featured with a the Presentation of Colors, Prayers for All Military, POW/MIA Tributes, and patriotic speakers, followed up with parades.
Throughout my public schooling, my classmates and I were asked to stand at attention and to recite the Pledge of Allegiance every Monday morning. We were too young to comprehend the gravity of war and its many consequences. But I heard a great deal — too much information, in fact — from grandfathers who had served in World War II describing all they had endured.
My hopes and prayers today are that we always remember our Veterans of the past and present, and that we work to ensure that they have access to nothing short of the finest medical facilities for healing and care. It is because of their sacrifices that we enjoy the freedoms that are all too easy to take for granted. May we never forget them!
