All too many people recall the year 1978, when toxic waste at Love Canal was reported. Two years later, it was discovered that acid rain was corroding buildings and killing forests. The Clean Water Act was passed back in 1969, however recent events have placed dangers to our environment once more in the news.

Heatwaves are expected to become more common, and drought, extinction, and disease will worsen as we continue to court warm the atmosphere and ocean.
