An Undisputed Warming Trend

All too many people recall the year 1978, when toxic waste at Love Canal was reported. Two years later, it was discovered that acid rain was corroding buildings and killing forests. The Clean Water Act was passed back in 1969, however recent events have placed dangers to our environment once more in the news.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has announced something everyone knows now: 2015 was the hottest year since record keeping began in 1880. Heatwaves are expected to become more common, and drought, extinction, and disease will worsen as we continue to court warm the atmosphere and ocean.

Attention for the natural gas leak near Los Angeles may have dropped off the news wires, but an estimated 20,000 kilograms of methane are emptying into the air per hour—equal to 1.4 million more cars on the road. Regulations need to be passed.
